Licence required

Private investigator licensing in Mexico

Yes. Private investigators need a licence in Mexico.

Mexico has no individual private investigator licence; obtaining background, solvency, location or activity information about people is a private security modality ('sistemas de prevención y responsabilidades') that needs authorisation under the Federal Private Security Law. The federal security ministry's Directorate General of Private Security authorises providers operating in two or more states, while single-state providers are authorised under state law. Providers may not carry out the criminal investigation functions reserved to the Public Prosecutor and the police.
