Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026. This policy applies to data collected through investigatorevents.com and the Investigator Events iOS app.

Who we are

Investigator Events is operated by Conflict International. This policy applies to our website (investigatorevents.com) and our iOS mobile application. Our contact address for data matters is info@investigatorevents.com.

What data we collect and why

Newsletter signup

When you subscribe to event alerts we collect your email address. We use this to send you a weekly digest of new and upcoming investigator events. The lawful basis for processing is consent. You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us directly.

Event submission

When you submit an event for listing we collect your name, contact email address, and the event details you provide. We use this information to review and publish your listing and to contact you about that submission. The lawful basis is legitimate interests (operating the calendar) and, where applicable, performance of a contract.

Advertiser and partner enquiries

When you complete the advertiser or partner enquiry form we collect your name, email address, organisation, and any details you choose to include. We use this to respond to your enquiry and assess whether a commercial relationship is appropriate. The lawful basis is legitimate interests.

User accounts and profiles

When you create an account we collect your name, email address, and password (stored securely via hashing). You may optionally provide additional profile information including your location, firm name, specialisation, bio, and avatar. If you sign in via Google or LinkedIn, we receive your name, email, and profile photo from those services. This data is used to operate your account and display your public profile. The lawful basis is contract performance (providing the service you signed up for) and legitimate interests.

Messaging

When you send messages to other users through the Platform, the content of those messages is stored in our database and is accessible to the sender and recipient. We do not read or monitor private messages except when reviewing a report submitted by a participant in the conversation. The lawful basis is contract performance.

Community posts and forum content

Content you post in public areas of the Platform (forum discussions, assistance requests, comments) is visible to all users and is stored in our database. The lawful basis is contract performance and legitimate interests (operating the community features).

Association membership and badges

If you are verified as a member of a partner association, we store your association membership status as provided by the association. This information is displayed on your public profile via a Verified Association Badge. The lawful basis is legitimate interests (operating the badge system) and, where applicable, consent provided via the partner association.

Reports and moderation

When you report another user or piece of content, we collect the details of your report and may retain related content for moderation and enforcement purposes. Reporter identity is kept confidential from the reported user. The lawful basis is legitimate interests (maintaining platform safety).

Terms of Service acceptance

We record the date and time you accepted our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. This is retained for legal compliance purposes.

iOS app: camera and photo library access

Our iOS app uses the device camera and photo library so you can attach photos to private messages. Photos you capture or select are uploaded to our secure storage and shared only with the recipient of the message. We never access your camera or photos without your explicit action. iOS will prompt you for permission the first time. You can revoke permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera (or Photos) → Investigator Events.

iOS app: push notifications

If you grant permission for notifications on iOS, we register a device token with Apple's Push Notification service and store it against your account so we can deliver alerts (e.g. new messages, connection requests, events from associations you follow). The token does not identify you to Apple and is not shared with any third party. You can revoke permission at any time in iOS Settings → Notifications → Investigator Events, and we delete your tokens when you sign out or delete your account.

Sign in with Apple

If you sign in with Apple, we receive only your name (which you can edit on first sign-in) and either your real email or a private Apple relay email of your choosing. We never receive your Apple ID or password. The lawful basis is contract performance.

How long we keep your data

Newsletter subscribers: your email is retained until you unsubscribe. Event submissions: contact details are retained for as long as the listing remains live, and for up to 12 months after removal. Advertiser enquiries: retained for up to 12 months from receipt, unless an ongoing relationship is established. User accounts: profile data and content are retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, personal data is removed within 30 days, though anonymised content (e.g. forum posts) may be retained. Messages: retained for as long as both the sender and recipient accounts are active. Reports: retained for up to 24 months after resolution.

Who we share your data with

Service providers

We share data with service providers who support the operation of this site, including database hosting (Supabase), email delivery, and authentication services. These providers are bound by data processing agreements and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.

Partner associations

We may share anonymised, aggregated data with partner associations (such as the number of users in a region or interest in particular event types). We do not share individual user data with associations without your consent, except to confirm badge eligibility when you have opted into the badge verification process.

Other users

Information you include in your public profile, forum posts, and community content is visible to other registered users and, depending on your privacy settings, to the public. Private messages are visible only to the sender and recipient.

Legal requirements

We may disclose personal data if required by law, regulation, or legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.

Our services use infrastructure located in the EU and United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK or EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including standard contractual clauses approved by the ICO.

Cookies

We use a single cookie to store your cookie consent preference. Authentication cookies are used to maintain your login session. These cookies do not track you across sites and contain no personal data beyond session identifiers. We do not currently use analytics or advertising cookies. If this changes we will update this policy and ask for your consent again.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct inaccurate data, to request deletion, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability where applicable. To exercise any of these rights contact us at info@investigatorevents.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Deleting your account

You can permanently delete your account at any time from within the iOS app (Profile → Edit → Delete Account) or via the website (Profile → Edit → Delete Account). When you confirm deletion, your account is removed immediately, your profile and personal data are deleted from our active database within 24 hours, and any backups containing your data are purged on the next backup rotation (within 30 days). Anonymised content you have contributed to public areas (e.g. forum posts, event submissions credited to your account) may be retained in anonymised form. To request account deletion via email instead, contact info@investigatorevents.com.

Children's privacy

Investigator Events is intended for adult professionals working in investigation, fraud examination, corporate security, and related fields. The iOS app is rated 17+ and the platform is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact info@investigatorevents.com and we will delete the account.

California users (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of any sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise any CCPA right contact info@investigatorevents.com.

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page with a revised date. Continued use of the site or app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
