No specific licence

Private investigator licensing in Brazil

No. Brazil has no specific private investigator licence.

Brazil recognises the profession of detetive particular in Lei 13.432/2017 but runs no licence or registration scheme: the articles that would have set entry requirements (arts. 1, 3 and 4) were vetoed. The law instead sets conduct rules: a written contract with prescribed contents, a signed final report to the client, confidentiality duties, and bans on taking criminal work, joining police operations directly or using case material against the client. A detective may assist a police inquiry only with the client's express authorisation and the police chief's acceptance.1
