Private investigator licensing in Chile

No. Chile has no specific private investigator licence.

Chile has no licence for private investigators. The private security statute, Ley 21.659 sobre Seguridad Privada, lists the regulated activities (guarding, cash-in-transit, alarm monitoring, security advice, training and similar), overseen by the Subsecretaría de Prevención del Delito and Carabineros, and investigation is not among them. Investigators trade as ordinary businesses, but general criminal, privacy and data-protection law limits their methods, and the security-advice activity needs separate authorisation under Ley 21.659.2
