Private investigator licensing in Tanzania

No. Tanzania has no specific private investigator licence.

Tanzania has no law that licenses private investigators or detective agencies. In a parliamentary answer, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs said the Police Force oversees private security companies because it issues firearm licences and permits, that no separate agency would be set up, and that a dedicated private security law was still at an early stage of discussion between the Union and Zanzibar governments. Investigation work is therefore run as an ordinary registered business, subject to general law such as the Personal Data Protection Act 2022.1
