Private investigator licensing in Iraq

No. Iraq has no specific private investigator licence.

Iraq has no law that licenses private investigators. The Private Security Companies Law No. 52 of 2017 covers companies that provide 'security protection services' for a fee (Art. 1). They need a work permit proposed by the Ministry of Interior and approved by the National Security Council (Art. 4), are registered by the Ministry's Directorate for Private Security Companies Affairs (Art. 6), and may not carry out any activity not stated in the licence (Art. 23). Investigation is not mentioned, and no official source found says whether it may be run as an ordinary business. The text read is the Ministry of Justice's 2024 English translation, which includes amendments.1
