Private investigator licensing in Argentina

There is no national licence in Argentina, but local licensing may apply.

Argentina has no national licence for private investigators; the rules are set by each province. In Buenos Aires Province, private detectives are a category of private security staff under Ley 12.297 and need prior authorisation from the provincial Ministry of Justice and Security, working through a licensed security company; they may only gather evidence for civil matters or, with a legitimate interest, for a criminal case (Arts. 2.5, 4, 7, 40, 43). Córdoba's Ley 10.571 also lists investigation as a licensed private security activity (Art. 7). The City of Buenos Aires (CABA) does not license investigators, and its security law bars licensed security providers from doing investigation work (Ley 5.688, Art. 450.5).1
