SUCAMEC licenses private security under Decreto Legislativo 1213, but the licensed services are guarding, personal protection, cash-in-transit, custody of controlled goods, event security, security technology, in-house protection and two individual protection services; private investigation is not among them (Reglamento, Arts. 6-7). Bills to regulate detectives have been filed in Congress, but none has passed; the 2020 bill was archived in 2022. Investigation runs as an ordinary business, limited by privacy, data protection and criminal law.1
