Private investigator licensing in Brunei
No. Brunei has no specific private investigator licence.
Brunei has no law that licenses private investigators or investigation agencies. The Security Agencies Act (Cap. 187) licenses only businesses that supply security guards to protect people or property or prevent theft (ss. 2 and 5), through a licensing officer appointed by the Minister responsible for internal security (s. 4). Investigation is not within that definition, and the general Business Licences Act was repealed from 1 January 2016, so investigation runs as an ordinary registered business, subject to privacy, data protection and criminal law.2
