Private investigator licensing in Indonesia
No. Indonesia has no specific private investigator licence.
Indonesia has no law that licenses private investigators or detective agencies. The security business licence (Surat Izin Operasional for a Badan Usaha Jasa Pengamanan) covers only six activities: security consulting, security equipment, security training, cash-in-transit escort, supplying guards and supplying security animals (PP 28/2025 Art. 180; Perpol 6/2021 annex, KBLI 80100). Investigation is not on that list, so it is set up as an ordinary registered business, but privacy, personal data and criminal law still apply.1
