Private investigator licensing in Bosnia and Herzegovina

There is no national licence in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but local licensing may apply.

Detective work is licensed by the entities and Brčko District, not the state. In Republika Srpska a private detective needs an authorisation from the police (CJB): RS or BiH citizenship and RS residence, age 25+, a higher education degree, a 12-month traineeship with a private detective and a professional exam before a Ministry of Interior commission, plus a separate CJB approval to start work (Arts. 35-41, Law 4/12). In Brčko District detective agencies need Brčko Police approval and each detective needs a Police authorisation: BiH citizen, adult, at least secondary education, clean record and an exam passed before an entity interior ministry (Arts. 27-34, Law 27/04). The Federation's security agencies law does not mention detectives, and no Federation licence for detectives was found.2
