No specific licence

Private investigator licensing in Tuvalu

No. Tuvalu has no specific private investigator licence.

Tuvalu has no licence for private investigators or private security firms: the official index of laws in force at 31 December 2022 and the PacLII consolidation contain no such Act, and the Licences Act (1917) schedules list trades such as auctioneers, hawkers and shops but not investigation or security work. The Police Service Act 2009 makes it an offence, for any business, occupation or employment, to use the designation 'detective' or any title including it, or to use police expressions in a business name (s. 80(3)-(4)), with a maximum penalty of 100 fine units (s. 80(5)). Investigation itself is not banned, but an investigator must not call themselves a detective.4
